Dr. Ethan Chiu has over 20 years of experience in camera, actuator, and vision system design, as well as in marketing and manufacturing. In 2007, he joined Foxconn’s camera module business, where he led a team developing stereo 3D cameras, liquid crystal lenses, and actuators based on piezoelectric, SMA, and OIS technologies for Tier-1 mobile phone customers.
In 2012, he joined Actuator Solution GmbH (ASG) as Head of the Telecom Business Unit and Managing Director of Actuator Solution Taiwan. During his tenure, he successfully brought cutting-edge SMA technology into mass production for a world-leading drone customer.
Dr. Chiu earned his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University, USA, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Chung Yuan Christian University, Taiwan. He was also a Ph.D. candidate in Electrical and Control Engineering at National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, before leaving the program. He holds more than 50 patents in the U.S., China, and Taiwan, and is the lead author of 43 SCI journal and conference papers in the fields of optics, mechatronics, genetic algorithms, and neural networks.
Outside of work, Ethan is the proud father of two “monkeys,” who keep him even more exhausted after work.
